The Airport Layout and Smaller Size Make It Easy to Get From Points A to B Quickly

For an airport that saw more than 3.2 million passengers in 2016, this airport is small and extremely easy to negotiate. On the Ticketing level, there are two Concourses: Concourse A, serviced by Southwest, United, and Aeromar; and Concourse B, serviced by Alaska, American, and Delta. The Baggage level is separate, under Ticketing, and is all in one large 'space', so there's no getting lost when going to get baggage. Countertops with electrical outlets are located on both concourses for travelers needing to plug in laptops or electrical devices. And free Wi-Fi is available all throughout the airport.

The TSA, In Many Ways, Aggravates Some Travelers

Here in Tucson, like so many other airports, TSA comes under fire for a few reasons here. The airport has signs everywhere asking if people have signed up for TSA Pre-Check, but many fliers have complained that the Pre-Check is never open when they go through. And reportedly, when security is there to screen passengers, they are perpetually understaffed, so bear this in mind when determining your arrival time before your flight.

For an 'International' airport, there are woefully few stores, restaurants, and bars. As you go along and see something to purchase at a shop, you may as well buy it then and there. The same goes for getting something to eat or drink in the airport. With such limited options in everything, and being widely spread out, you may not see another place to get what you want before you arrive at where you're heading.

TUS Has Artwork to Behold

Artwork by local artists is prominently featured in many areas of the airport, helping to provide beauty and culture to the complex. Art can be found in Concourse A & B, Ticketing A & B, Ticketing Center Core, Baggage A & B, Third Floor, and even in the Rental Car Facility and Outdoors. As part of the expansion of the terminal, integrating art into the structure of the terminal is a component of the Tucson International Airport Arts and Culture Program. Art walls on the baggage belts, at the security checkpoints, and at restroom entrances feature original artwork from Arizona artists. Five changing exhibits galleries, and Live@TIA!, a performing arts program, are also featured here.

Make Sure You Get the Airport Code Right!

Make sure all your baggage is labeled 'TUS' if you're flying into Tucson. Yes, it's a bit confusing, but it's been that way for a long time now. Travelers are sometimes inclined to think of Tucson as 'TUC' or 'TIA' (for Tucson International Airport), but both these codes are used by other airports. So if your bags are marked 'TUC', they're headed to San Miguel de Tucuman in Argentina. If they're labeled with 'TIA' tags, they'll end up collecting dust in some warehouse corner at Tirana International Airport in Albania.
